Armed with a BS in Business Administration from Northwood University and enriched by the Leadership Program at Gratitude Training, Neill’s commitment to his personal and professional development is evident. His tenure at Gratitude Training went beyond his own transformation; he dedicated years to volunteering, imparting crucial life and leadership coaching.

Neill’s board experiences reflect his broader commitment to service and organizational excellence. As a founder and Board Director of the Inclusive Recovery Foundation from 2019 to 2022, he played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s direction, formulating policies, and managing day-to-day operations to fund recovery housing for those battling substance use disorders and mental health challenges. His strategic vision was equally influential as Vice President and Standards Chair of the North Carolina Association of Recovery Residences, where he spearheaded the implementation of rigorous new standards to ensure quality and ethical practices across recovery residences in North Carolina.

Neill offers a wealth of expertise from successfully navigating various sectors, an entrepreneurial mindset underscored by his innovative ventures, and a track record of leadership that is both ethical and results-driven.

With expertise in treasury strategy and financial management, Powell ensures PIVOTPoint’s fiscal health, enabling transformative programs that teach essential life skills and emotional regulation. He earned a B.S. in Financial Management from Clemson University, focusing on Corporate Finance and Financial Accounting, and currently serves as a Financial Associate specializing in Treasury Strategy at Pine Gate Renewables, one of the nation’s fastest-growing utility-scale solar power producers. Renewable energy has become his “call to arms,” driving innovation and collaboration to build a sustainable future.

Powell brings the same dedication and forward-thinking approach to PIVOTPoint, aligning financial resources with mission-driven initiatives. A firm believer in the power of nature to inspire growth, he helps individuals step outside their comfort zones and discover their potential through outdoor experiential learning. In his free time, Powell enjoys running the Asheville Greenway, practicing self-care at the sauna, and mentoring others, sharing his passion for personal and professional growth.

Anna is an associate attorney at Bull and Reinhardt, PLLC and has been for the past three years. She specializes in complex family and civil law litigation. Anna is a Western NC native. She grew up in Hendersonville, NC; she and her husband Tom, (and their dog, Potter) moved back to the mountains in 2021. Anna is a lifelong member at First Presbyterian Church of Asheville where she currently serves as a deacon. She also plays on a local soccer team and enjoys spending time outside in the beautiful blue ridge mountains.

Anna received her Bachelor of Arts in Political science at UNC-Wilmington and later received her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University. During her undergraduate studies at UNC-Wilmington, she interned for a local non-profit, Asheville Youth Mission, which partners with other local non-profits in the area. This work sparked a passion and love in Anna to help those in the community. Anna is particularly excited to serve on the Board of PIVOTPoint in honor of her late uncle, Daniel Summerlin. She has a passion for service to those experiencing addiction and other mental health issues. Her and her husband are expecting their first son who is due in December of 2024!

Patrick Balsley is a Board Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and has been working with families affected by substance use for over a decade. He owns and operates a private practice called Sana Counseling in Charlotte, NC that provides services for individuals and families at every stage of the recovery process. Patrick serves on the Behavioral Health Committee at Atrium Health Foundation and on the Board of Directors at Emerald School of Excellence, the Carolina’s first Recovery High School. In Patrick’s free time he enjoys playing basketball, practicing meditation and exploring anything he feels may expand his ability to live a more love-filled life. Patrick has been in sustained remission from substance use disorder since 2011 and lives in Matthews, NC with his wife Anya and their three young children.

Jeremy French is a maker. He’s made lots of cool things – a sober life worth living, a marriage, some really great kids, time to spend outside, some furniture, and a business that teaches addicts how to make these things for themselves. Jeremy gets real excited to figure out how to help make more things that make life better for more people

As a person in recovery, Mags feels that serving on the board of directors of PivotPoint WNC is a perfect fit. She deeply believes in the combination of nature, structured support, and community. That it creates an environment where individuals can rebuild confidence, resilience, and purpose. PIVOTPoint’s mission to guide people toward lasting wellness resonates with her values of growth, accountability, and connection. She is honored to help strengthen strategic vision, expand impact, and ensure continuity of safe, meaningful, and life-changing opportunities for those seeking a new path forward.

Margaret “Mags” Bassett Harmon came from Charlottesville, VA in 2006. She has been in the legal field since 1985, practicing law in Virginia and joining Goosmann Rose Colvard & Cramer, P.A. as a paralegal in the summer of 2015. Ms. Harmon holds a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from TC Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and is a NC Notary Public.

Larry Nannis was a founder of Katz, Nannis + Solomon, PC, a regional CPA firm in Waltham, MA currently providing financial management and tax advice to entrepreneurs at all levels of the growth curve. In May 2016, after a career of 47 years in public accounting, he retired from active practice as a CPA. Since retirement, he has sub-contracted with Basic Business Concepts of Pittsburgh, PA., a contract CFO firm working to provide CFO services on a team basis for growing companies.

Larry is presently an adviser for the Southeast Region of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center. In addition, he was a volunteer “Expert-in-Residence at TechSandBox, a technology incubator in Hopkinton, MA. Larry was a Virtual Business Adviser for Cohorts 8 and 11 of the National Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program. Over the past year, Larry has been a mentor for the first three cohorts on “E for All – Roxbury”: a program that is accelerating economic and social impact in communities nationwide through inclusive entrepreneurship. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Boston University School of Management and his M.S in Taxation from Bentley University.

With a passion for supporting vulnerable youth and young adults, Michael brings extensive experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment to the board. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and is certified in counseling. His career includes working at substance abuse treatment centers in California and North Carolina. Most recently, serving as the Intensive Outpatient Director at a substance abuse treatment center, where he was instrumental in re-shaping and improving the program to better serve clients.

He has a strong history of working directly with children and young people through various roles. Currently, Michael runs a concierge case management business dedicated to helping clients navigate recovery from substance abuse and manage mental health challenges. His expertise, compassion, and dedication make him a valuable member of the board, committed to helping people find hope, success, and discovering their best selves.

Daniel Summerlin spent his formative years in the outdoors of WNC through Boy Scouts, family trips, etc. He was an avid outdoorsman embracing camping, hiking, and paddling since childhood. Daniel agreed to join the board of PIVOTPoint WNC to help foster and spread the healing benefits of the unique natural world to anyone seeking it, addressing a number of mental health issues – from substance abuse addiction, to survivors of trauma, to a host of other challenges. He experienced first-hand the benefits and restorative nature of direct contact with, and immersion in, the outdoors.

Believing passionately that regular immersion in nature is a crucial part of recovery and healing, Daniel’s own personal passion for engaging in the outdoors, coupled with a unique platform as a native Asheville, NC resident, is hoped to foster the greater community’s awareness of PIVOTPoint WNC’s stated purpose as well as leverage long standing relationships within the community to cultivate donations to support experiential services for every demographic struggling with Substance Use Disorder.​

Daniel sat on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Asheville as well as the Commercial Investment Realty Association of Western North Carolina (CIRA). He believed wholeheartedly in the personnel behind PIVOTPoint WNC and only wanted to help in any way possible to further their success, as this translates directly into a benefit of the community at large

Kevin is a combat wounded (32 surgeries) Marine Corps veteran, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. Kevin is also a person in long-term-recovery, remaining a vocal community advocate for harm reduction modalities, including medication assisted therapy. Serving for 11 years with the Special Olympics of NC, and 6 years at NC Brookhaven Behavioral Health’s Assertive Community Treatment Team, Kevin came to appreciate the healing power of ‘the human connection’. Kevin is a NCSAPPB Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, Certified Clinical Supervisor Intern, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and IATP Certified Expert Trauma Professional.

Kevin now serves as the Project Director for the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC), an 18-month, treatment-based diversion court for justice-involved veterans. Upon completion of the VTC, veterans are eligible to have their charges dismissed. Nationally, VTC’s boast a 5% recidivism rate. Kevin is also a drummer, playing in several bands including Tyler Ramsey (from Band of Horses), Her Marigold, and Electric Owls. Kevin is excited to serve on the PIVOTPoint Board and work together to increase access to therapeutic wilderness services, especially in the justice-involved population.
